Hermes 2021 Theme of the year was the Human Odyssey ….. We translated that into the Odyssey of Story Telling for the UK festive window design. Storytelling and narrative is such huge part of Hermes as a House so this seemed like the perfect starting point.

Our hero travels through time experiencing stories in mutilple different formats :- Each window tells the history of how we humans connect through narratives … our first window is a nod to the travelling storyteller and how prehistoric man would tell stories through cave painting. The second window is about writing , reading and recording… window 3 tells a narrative of broadcast and the final window is both now and the future of how we connect with film , screens and still meeting and sharing face to face.

We created a lighting scheme that changed from day , to night through sunset and sunrise so as you look at the window you can see a whole revolution of a day in a few minutes. The lighting is programmed to change at exactly the same time through all the UK windows as if they are communicating through light.

As a special gift we created hand turned and beautifully articulated festive tree decorations in for the form of our protagonist..
